Eventually I will write again

Hey, there. How’s it going?

I’ve been silent for quite a while on this site that used to be mine. Right now, it seems like it belongs more to the people who comment on the site, because I’ve been MIA so long that I’ve become more like the host emeritus. Hopefully that won’t last forever.

Life is busy. Good, but busy. I’m at that point where my wife and I are in the cycle of get up, go to work, come home, play with the baby, do chores, go to bed, and repeat. Further complicating matters is the fact that we decided one day last month that because interest rates are on their way back up, now might be the time to buy a new house. So we did.

We’re now mired in that process of loan and real estate paperwork and the annoying thing of having to make sure our current house is presentable at any given moment so we can sell the damn thing. Then we’ll get to pack and move — all while trying to figure out how all that works while having a 6-month-old. We’ll get it done. But I fear September is going to make me want to hit the bourbon. I prefer Maker’s Mark, but usually buy Jim Beam because I’m cheap.

So things are happening. Obviously, I haven’t blogged in months and I’m way late on my Star Trek Into Darkness review. That kind of got pushed aside. You shouldn’t read into my lateness as a reflection upon my opinion of the movie. I’ll write it after the Blu-ray comes out and I have a chance to watch it again as a refresher. I’m not promising the review will be done right after the DVD/BD release, but I’ll try not to sit on it forever. Although September may be bad given the whole move thing.

Rest assured, I read the comments on Jammer’s Reviews every day — usually on my smartphone while walking between meetings at work, on my lunch hour, or before bed. One of the best things I ever did for the site was to make a mobile-friendly version that included the comments. Hey, I’m not just the creator of the Jammer’s Reviews website — I’m also a user!

So keep the comments coming. No, I haven’t read the STID comments yet. That’s going to be one hell of a catch-up project, as it looks like that thread is closing in on 500 now. Hopefully people haven’t been total a-holes in there while making their rhetorical points. But if they have, my apologies for not being in their to moderate.

I’ll be back.

Hey Jammer,

Good to hear from you. I was wondering what exactly you do for a living now. If you still work as a journalist for a newspaper. And I remember reading on the site that you started college as a computer engineering major but switched to English.I was wondering what made you decide to switch?

Thanks. And all the best with your move and family

I am no longer in the newspaper industry, which at this point is a relief. How I exited the industry is a story for another day. I now work at a large company in another industry doing similar work (web content/administration).

Hey!

Thanks for the heads-up!

I always think the worst have happened to somebody when they disappear from the internet for a while, but that’s the usual drastic way we think on the interwebz

With all the stuff that’s going on in your life Jammer, I should have known better. With a bit of luck, some years from now you’ll look back and think “Wow, those were some crazy times, things are calmer now”. Kids eventually grow up (and become more independent), things settle down and life goes on.

And we’ll still be here, posting and discussing 😀

How dare you have a life Sir! Why I have half a mind to demand my money back over this, yes I do. You’ll be hearing from my lawyers just as soon as I find the money for them. 😉

On a more serious note, life happens so get to the review when you can. As you have noticed, the fans (inmates) have taken over the site (asylum) where STID is concerned, but we anxiously await your input as well. Glad to hear all is well with you and yours.

Jammer,

Just curious, did you like the movie, were lukewarm on it, or hated it? It doesn’t need to be a review, but maybe a small taste of what that review might be like.

Glad your life is doing well. Hope the baby is doing well too.

I will convey my general feelings of STID when I release the review. So I won’t be providing spoilers of my review at this time. 🙂

^ Purely diabolical. 😀

Glad life is going well (if busy!), Jammer. I still enjoy cruising the site for old BSG/DS9 reviews. Always really enjoyed your takes on things, and I look forward to more whenever you have the time and inclination.

Thanks for your response, Jammer. I suppose the question of why you switched majors from comp eng to English is also a story for another time?

On my major switch, suffice it to say I wasn’t cut out at the time for the the rigors of the calculus or physics required by the program. I was much more suited to writing and journalism.

That’s a relief, Jammer. I was nervous you’d been hurt in a transporter accident, or crashed in a shuttlecraft, or were somehow pinned to an explosive device with a countdown timer. You know, one of the fates that seem to befall Star Trek characters in any given episode.

On the other hand, if you had been beset by one of the aforementioned maladies, I’m sure you would have learned a tidy little lesson about the nature of humanity by the time all was said and done, so it wouldn’t have been for nothing. 🙂

Seriously though, home moanership and parenthood are key, though time consuming, milestones of life. Enjoy your wife and child, and remember that everything that happens here on the interwebs is entirely secondary and less important than what happens there at home.

Blessings to you!

Jamahl, I’m glad to hear things are going for you. You’ve got to keep those priorities straight, I’m glad you’re putting your family first.

It’s a good thing that you refuse to crank out a review for the sake of cranking one out. You’re material is always very thoughtful, rushing it would lower the quality.

I wish you and your family the best of luck.

So there I am watching BSG “Pegasus” again, and having just watched Star Trek Into Darkness, I’m wondering what Jammer thought of the new movie… and still no review 😉

Given a vague undertaking to have something up by the end of 2013, I’m hoping to see something soon!
All the best for 2014.
